Often referred to as the King of Croft, Andy Barton made his name initially racing in one litre Minis but made the leap in performance when he started to race this ex-Emerson Fittipaldi Lotus 69 in Libre events. This was
the famous Moonraker (a luxury yacht manufactures) F2 car raced successfully a few years earlier in international races. It had a successful few seasons in club racing, in the hands of
Johnny Blades before coming into Andy’s possession. Here the car is in the pale blue and white livery used on his racing minis. Andy held the up 1600cc lap record at Croft
with this car. This was one of his last races in this car before moving on to a
March 72B a few weeks later. The car continued its successful career in the hands of
David Muter who campaigned it in northern Libre races. It then went to Don Bewick and was hill climbed with a 1600cc twin-cam engine. Fully restored, with a BDG engine, it is now
being raced in historic events by Simon Hadfield. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ |
