Mick Starkey and the ATS Merlyn were regular competitors at Croft, and won the BARC North of England Formula Ford Championship in 1975, 1976and 1977, before retiring and the end of the '77 season. Mick came out of retirement at the end of the 1990's and races a Ford Fiesta XR2 in the Northern Saloon and Sports Car Championship.
