Dastle, once famous for their short-oval midget cars, and now for covered trailers, were commissioned in 1971 to build two F3 car for the Hesketh Racing Team. The resulting cars were variously known as Hesketh Dastle, Dastle Mk9 or Dastle T9. During 1972, chassis 001 and 002 were raced in the European F3 Championship by Steve Thompson, Anthony Horseley and James Hunt, both being heavily crashed by the latter. The car had little success, prompting the Hesketh Racing Team to move on to F2 and later F1 with James hunt as their driver. Both cars now belong to Vernon Williams, who races in the Historic Ecosse series. Chassis 001 has been restored to its 1972 condition, retaining James Hunt's colour scheme and decals. Chassis 002 is still awaiting repair from James' crash in 1972 at Brands Hatch. see James Hunt's F1 championship winning car
