Dave Kelly started his racing career by attending the Brands Hatch Racing School in 1972. His first car was the Formula 750 Viking LV17A, designed by Bill Longley, which he raced and developed over 5 years. The car featured here was a later ‘C’ variant with a very low frontal area with fully enclosed front wheels, racing as part of Team Castrol. A full race 648cc Reliant engine and close ration gearbox had replaced the 750cc version of the earlier 17B; other improvements included motorcycle style mudguards at the rear in place of a fully enveloped body. By 1979, he was still racing an F750, but the Peter Chaldecott designed, Chaldecott PC807. Unfortunately, this car was written-off, and replaced by a Chaldecott PC808 for the 1980 season.
