Landar R7
Engine: Ford 1300cc
Configuration: mid-engine
Driver: Stephen Lawrenson
Class: Sports Cars/Formula 1300
Date taken: March 1974 at start, Croft
This car and driver made a few appearances in the Libre races at Croft, the 1300cc Mini engine putting it at a disadvantage because it had to competed in the up to 1600cc class. By the time Stephen sold the car in 1976, it boasted an Arden 8-port fuel injected engine, straight cut gears and 9 and 10 wide wheels. If you look behind the rear wheels, you get a sense of how flimsy the body work was; the main structural units in this type of car being a tough aluminium monocoque or steel spaceframe. Another sports GT called a Landar raced at the time; this was an older design with more rounded bodywork and featured a mid-mounted Mini engine and gearbox. These cars were built by Landar Components Ltd. in Birmingham
