Mini Cooper
Engine: 997cc Cosworth SCA
Configuration: front engine, front-wheel drive
Driver: Andy Barton
Class: Special Saloons up to 1000cc
Date of Description: 1973
Andy Had moved to a mini in the late sixties after racing a Morris 1000. His 140bhp, hybrid Mini/Ford being very successful and contributing to Andy's record of most wins at Croft Autodrome (1966-1981). Unfortunately, this car was written off in early 1973; the rebuilt car taking 3 wins at the only three meetings it attended. The SCA engine had an aluminium block, SCA 6 cam, dry sump and electronic ignition. A close ration, straight cut gear train was connected to a Jack Knight Limited slip differential. Koni shock absorbers were used all round, and the car had a coil sprung beam axel at the back. Unusually for a Mini, 13inch (33cms) diameter wheels were used instead of 10inch (25.4cms); these being 7.5 and 9inches (19cms and 22.9cms) wide. Andy moved on to to single seaters the following year 1974. (see Andy's Lotus 69)

Engine: 997cc Cosworth SCA and BDA
Configuration: mid-engine?, front-wheel drive
Driver: David Wragg
Class: Special Saloons up to 1000cc
Date of Description: 1973
Of the mini/Ford hybrids of the time, David Wragg's car was unusual because the engine sat longitudinally alongside the driver in the cockpit - not transversally and fixed to an Mini gearbox like the rest. David was an experienced driver, having been successful in Formula 3, and the Radio Caroline Clubman Champion in 1966. (see David's previous car, a Ford Escort 997cc)
