Peter Pitman
Class:
Special Saloons up to 1000cc

Peter Pitman was famous for his exploits in his own Imps. The rear engine design of the car allowed Peter to experiment with large cut-outs in the front to create aerodynamic down force, a feature exploited by many rear
engined saloons since. See similar idea in Tony Sugden’s Skoda of 2003. Shortly after this picture was taken the car was sold to Eddie McLurg who kept the same colour scheme for some time before changing the main
colour to yellow, but retained the maroon roof. Further development took place under Eddie’s ownership with the car being further lightened with Rawlson fibreglass panels. The car was written-off in 1979 when it was
rolled during a race a Lydden Hill. A year-or-so after this photo was taken he moved up a couple of classes to drive a
1900cc FVC, Ford Escort.
