Richard Simms Took up motor racing in 1967 in a Lotus 11, moving on to drive an MG Midget over the following two years. During the 1971-2 seasons he raced a Chevron B19 in Special GT races, acquiring a
Chevron B23 sports
car, and international racing experience, for the 1974-5 seasons. Another Chevron was raced in Libre events during the 1975-6 seasons, this time it was the
ex-Tony Dean B24, Formula 5000 car. Next season, 1977, he moved to Special Saloons with a 1300cc BDA escort, but with a season plagued with problems he changed to the
Martini sports car based, Cosworth FVC engined, Skoda S110 seen here. The rear-engined design of the Skoda meant that, within Special/Super Saloons regulations, a mid-engined car could be constructed. Only the name Skoda
had anything to do with the original car, the rest being a thinly disguised, plastic bodied, sports racer.

Richard's second Skoda RS was based on a Chevron B26 chassis and raced from1980 onwards. This car started with the old FVC engine
from his previous car but was later replaced by a much more powerful Cosworth BDG. Richard was runner up in the Northern Special Saloon Championship in 1980 and also took a class lap record at Aintree with a speed of
103.0mph (165.8kph)
