Ginger and David Marshall both had successful karting careers in the sixties, building and tuning their own karts. David migrated to the engineering side of race while Ginger concentrated on the driving. Their previous collaboration, the Mini Traveller, had be immensely successful and the lessons learned from its development were carried through to their new project the Reliant Kitten. The body followed the same principles as the mini, an aluminium monocoque clothed in a lightweight, one- piece, replica Kitten body. The engine block was cast from David's design and was a development of the cut and weld engine block used in their Mini Traveller. This block solved a lot of the problems in mating the in-line Imp engine to the transverse, Jack Night, Mini gearbox. Only the best was used in the mix- and- match engine; Greetham provided the cylinder head, an Allen forged steel crank was used and Carter fitted the steel liners.
