The Herald was the 4-cylinder version of the Vitesse opposite and never had the 1500cc engine featured in this car. The most powerful spec Herald was the 13/60, 1300cc/60bhp engine. Externally, Heralds differed from the Vitesse by having 2 headlights as opposed to the Vitesse's 4.

John Davies, a surgeon by day, is a long time competitor in the TSCC series. The Vitesse is an unusual choice for racing, only one other is known to race in New Zealand. All of the smaller engined Triumphs of the time; Spitfire, GT6, Herald and Vitesse, had the dreaded swing axel rear suspension, later models of the GT6 and this car had a single, lower wishbone to stop 'tuck under'.

Triumph Dolomite Sprint

Configuration: front-engine, front-wheel drive
Driver: Wineke Hommes (NL)
Race Series: The Youngtimer Trophy
Date taken: August 2002 at Croft Circuit
The Youngtimer Trophy allows cars homologated for racing from 1966 to 1976, to take part. Most of the races take place in Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and The Netherlands. This was the first time one of the races took place in the UK. Triumph produced two new engines during the seventies; a unsuccessful V8 for the Stag, and the very successful twin-cam engine featured in this car. The Dolomite was a very ordinary family saloon until the Sprint engine was added. Dolomites dominated their class in Production and G1 saloon racing for a couple of years, taking outright victory in the 1975 British Touring Car Championship in the hands of Tony Rouse. Dolomite sprint engines also featured in many successful Formula Three cars.
