Toyota Celica 1600 GT
Manufactured: 1970-77 Engine: Toyota 1588cc Configuration: front engine, rear-wheel drive
Driver: Martin Brundel Class: Group 1 Touring Cars Date taken: March 1977 at Start Line, Croft
Toyota's Celica 1600GT was a well established competition car in the 1970s, having a great deal of success in racing and rallying. The strong 1600cc twin-cam engine gave this car the power needed both in production and tuned trim.
Shown here is a production car which was taking part in a Special Saloon race. Martin Brundel went on to become an F1 driver, and then to co-presented
ITV's Formula One coverage with the great Murray Walker. He has made the pit lane walk his own and, nearly, always get his interview before the race.
