The Datsun 240Z Samuri (the correct spelling, Samurai, was a trade name for another company) pictured here was one of a few racing examples of a popular road conversion for the 240Z. This version had a 220+bhp engine with triple Weber carbs, and a full race suspension. 240Zs were one of the first Japanese car to catch the publics imagination and were top sellers both in the UK and USA. This car was one of the original 'Sams' and is seen lining up for the start of the Players No. 6 Modified Sports Car Championship of 1975.
A full race Samuri, known as Big Sam, was driven by Win Percy during the 1974 season. It featured triple, 48mm Dellortos; a forged steel crank, a 250bhp motor; 10 and 8 inch wide wheels and CanAm brakes. During this successful season it had many class wins, set 2 lap records, had one outright win and took the class championship.

The Datsun 240Z Super Samuri pictured here, FFA 196L, was the original Super Samuri built in 1973 as its creator, Spike Anderson's personal transport. A range of road car conversions based on this car were offered for sale during the 1970s and later Samuri conversions were made to other Japanese cars. This racing/road legal (it was driven to and from races) version had a single over head cam, 6-cylinder engine giving out over 190bhp with the help of triple 40DCOE Webers and a six branch manifold. Beefed up suspension and ventilated disc brakes meant it cornered and stopped well. During its initial racing career form 1973 to 1982, this car took part in over 80 events. Recently, FFA 196L, was restored to its original condition and is now used as a road car.
