Car Racing
A normal car club meeting would be held over one day with practise starting at 10 am and going on to 1pm; the six to eight race programme being held from 2 o'clock until 6 o'clock. A maximum of 24 cars were allowed to start a race. The local bye-laws were strict; these set starting and finishing times to protect local residents from the noise of un-silenced racing exhausts. The local council was sympathetic to the circuit an, in 1975, it allowed a procession of racing car to travel along public roads from Darlington's town centre to the circuit, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Stockton to Darlington Railway, the first passenger railway in the world.

Points System
Based on a sliding scale from 1st to 6th in each class, points awarded were: 9, 6, 4, 3, 2 1 . These points were reduced if less than six started in a class, meaning a driver doing consistently well may gain very few points if his class was not well attended. Fastest lap gained an extra point, and some race series dropped two or three of the competitor worst scores throughout the season.

Prize Money
This could be withheld completely if too few competitors raced. A class win could bring anything from £12 for a club race to £100 for a major championship series. Fifth placed competitors could go away with as little as £4, enough to buy about 8 gallons of petrol in the mid-seventies.

Outright Lap Records
The car record was set on 1st July, 1973 by Tony Dean in a Chevron B24 at a speed of 102.94mph (165.6kph). At least one sub one-minute lap (an average speed of over 105mph (169kph)) was recorded by John Lepp in a March 75S during practise, and therefore could not be classes as a record. The motorcycle lap record set in 1975 was jointly held by K. Ballington and S. Tonkin (both riding Yamahas) at a speed of 85.37mph (134.4kph).
