The engine for the 250F was a simple 2490cc, straight 6, giving out 270bhp on a
cocktail of petrol, methanol and castor oil (to stop the methanol dissolving
away the oil on the cylinder walls) Tubular steel of 25 and 40mm diameter was
use to construct the chassis. Suspension
was wishbone front and de Dion rear. Massive, 460mm diameter drum brakes at
each corner stopped the car. Stirling had come out of retirement in June of the previous year (1978) to drive this car for JCB in the pre-Le Mans 24 Hour, Historic Grand Prix. Stirling won this close fought race with his
team mate Willie Greene (above), when the latter's D-type spun on the final lap.
