BMW, during the seventies, dominated Group Two and Group Five racing with their 700bhp 'Batmobile' saloons. In production saloons, they had competition from another German Manufacturer, Opel. Despite being production models, these BMW cars could lap Croft around the 75mph (120kmph) mark.
