This car had the unusual experience of being a saloon during the previous few years! The Chevron chassis was mated to a fibreglass Imp body and raced in special saloons by Jonathan Buncombe. In its guise as a saloon it was very successful and famous, and, because of its Chevron/Imp hybridization, it was affectionately nicknamed the Chimp. It was originally built in 1971, with a central gear change, for John Lepp, moving on the following year to John Gray. Over the next two years it raced in Angola and was used as a hillclimb car. It was the Chimp in1975 before spending 1976 to 1983 with Vin Malkie. A move to Florida in 2001 saw the car restored to its original condition and colours
Vin was a team mate of the Gerry Gough, who drove the 1300cc Plygrange Mini in Special Saloon races.
