Martin had his first race in 1976, driving an 1100cc Opel Kadett at Rufforth, buying the Lotus Cortina featured here for the 1977 season and winning the 1978, over 2500cc class in the BARC Northern Special Saloon Championship. This car was the only surviving Team Lotus/Alan Mann Group 2 Cortina MkII. Fitted with a full race, fuel injected 3000cc V6, it was fast but could not compete with the lightweight silhouette cars of the time. Martin Sledmore put in a lot of spirited drives in this car and it was not unusual to see the front wheels lifting at the chicane. Other cars driven by Martin include the Opel Kadett.
