This picture shows Tony Strawson at Silverstone, he was leading the Esso Uniflow Championship at the time and maintained this lead to win the championship outright. The car was one of Mick Hill's originally, having Lola T70 suspension and 12inch (30cms) ventilated disc brakes all round. Firestone tyres were used on the 10 inch (25,4cms) front and 15 inch (38cms) rear wheels. A Gurney-Westlake, 4.7 V8, producing 415bhp fed its power through a Jaguar gearbox to a Jaguar differential. Hand painted strawberries, one for each win, decorated the roof. A later version of this car can be seen below.

Both of these images were taken on the same day during a Super Saloon meeting at Croft, 15th May 1977. The differences in colour is down to the age and the medium used- slide and print. This car was a marriage of two successful cars from a few years earlier; the body and suspension were ex-Mick Hill (above), and the engine was from Tony's Ford Falcon. By the time this photo was taken, the car had so many lightening hole, it flexed visibly with the torque of the engine. Two CanAm engines were available for this car, so I've been informed, a 7000cc for short circuits and the 8100cc for longer ones. A strawberry can be seen just in front of Tony's name; one of these appeared on the car after every win, so by the end of the season the car was covered in stawberries. Tony won his class in the 1976 Esso Uniflow Championship in this car.
