The top two cars were an early attempt at a Super Saloon. It looked as if it had been put together and modified to meet its needs as they arose - the scoops and arches looking
like after thoughts. Despite this, the car was very successful and it prompted Bill to carry the theme through to a more elegant ' Templar Tillers' car (lower picture).

Ford Boss Capri MkI
Engine: Ford 5700cc V8
Configuration:
front engine, rear-wheel drive Driver:
Doug Niven Class:
Special Saloons 2500cc and Super Saloons
Date
taken: May 1975, Chicane, Croft
This is an ex-Mick Hill car with which he held to outright saloon record at
Croft (89.74mph, 144.4kph). Ironically, Doug went on to break this record in the 5000cc VW Beetle,
another ex-Mick Hill car. Built around a semi monocoque chassis with front
and rear subframes, the roll cage was used to connect both ends. All the outer
panels were fibreglass and the front end was a single, removable unit. A
Lola T70 sports car provided all the suspension and brakes as well as the 12ins
(30cms) wide front and 15.5ins (39.5cms)wide rear wheels. Mick hill was clocked
doing 176mph (281kmph) at Silverstone in this car the previous year. See also 5700cc Boss Escort and
1970cc Escort below
