George Potter got the 'Welly' nickname from his earlier, exuberant driving style when contesting in Minis (It come from the expression 'to give it some welly' (Wellington Boot) - to go for it or put your foot down hard. The car was based around a Capri 3000GT shell with the addition of some CanAm bits - namely a Smith built Chevrolet 7600cc V8 and Lola T70 suspension. During his long association with this car, George notched up over 100 wins.
