Ford Capri Mk 2
Engine: 3000cc V6
Configuration: front-engine, rear-wheel drive
Driver: Pete Clark
Class: Special Saloons over 2500 and Group 1
Date taken: October 1975 at start, Croft
Pete built and raced his own Kart at the age of 14, later taking race lessons to hone his skills for track racing. His first race was at Rufforth in 1968 in an 850cc Mini Special Saloon, winning his class in the 1969 Northern Saloon Championship. In 1971 he won the Yorkshire Post Northern Sport GT Championship in a Chevron B8. Next was a move to Formula Ford, acquiring a Crossle 25F in 1972 he came second in the Tate Trophy, winning the title the following year. Then on to the Modus M1 Formula 3, seen elsewhere, in ’75, but with little success due to financial restraints. 1976 saw Pete racing a 3000cc Ford Capri Group 1 car, seen here, in The British Saloon Car Championship and long distance races. He won his class in the Tourist Trophy at Silverstone, and the Francorchamps 24-hours. Similar success followed when he won his class in the Silverstone 6-hour and the Spa 600km in ‘77, and the Francorchamps 24-hours and the Tourist Trophy in ‘78.

Ford Capri MkI
Engine: Ford 3000cc V6
Configuration: front engine, rear-wheel drive
Driver: Victor Mills
Class: Special Saloons 2500cc and Super Saloons
Date taken: October 1975 at start, Croft
A car taking advantage of the work done by Ford in Group two. Apart from the paint job and air intake on the bonnet, this car looks standard, but it had the advantage over V8 cars in that it was more evenly balance without the weight of the extra two cylinders at the front.
