Norton Mk6 Engine: Ford 1600cc Configuration: front engine, rear-wheel drive
Driver: Tony Norton
Class: Clubman 1600, modified engines Date taken: May 1978, main straight, Croft
This strange, wedge-shaped car, completed a year earlier by its driver, incorporated some good ideas. The clean, uncluttered lines reduced wind resistance and produced good straight line speed without sacrificing
cornering speed. Viewing this car from above(see diagram) would show it featured side pods, sweeping gracefully from the front suspension to
cover the rear wheels. A Longman tuned engine, giving about 130bhp, was connected to the ex-Gryphon rear axel by a Lotus Cortina
gearbox and prop shaft. The engine, a structural member, had twin 45DCOE Webers feeding petrol into a pre-crossflow head. Tony
Norton had been competing since 1958, and had been better known as a stock car driver. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Pegasus BF79 Engine: Ford 1600cc Brian Hart
Configuration: front engine, rear-wheel drive Driver: Terry Nightingale and Barry Foley
Class: Clubman up to 1700cc, modified engines (Tricentrol) Date taken: September 1979, Mallory Park
This car was originally known as the St. Bruno Roughcutter, and driven by Barry Foley (Catchpole, the cartoonist in Autosport) for much of the 70s. Barry made extensive modification to the car for Terry , and
the name was changed to to suit Terry's longtime sponsors, Pegasus Finishing. Modifications included ground effect side pods, a new, more efficient rear wing and revised suspension geometry. All this work
paid-off as Terry got a front row start with the car in its first race, finishing second and setting the fasted lap. Terry shared the car with Barry, who made the occasional appearance.
