Clubman cars produced very fast lap times, only out done by single seaters, for relatively little money. Cars were mostly home built and, with the exception of Mallocks, usually one-offs. The Beagle had an enclosed rear end with a distinctive long tail design. Viewed from the top this car was similar in looks to sports racers and featured parallel sides, with cut-outs for the front wheels, from the nose cone to the rear. The full race engine, featuring Cosworth crankshaft and camshaft, and twin 44 IDF Webers, was situated beside the driver. A magnesium gearbox with 2000E ratios fed the power to a VW transaxle which was part of a fabricated, tubular beam axle with magnesium uprights. Axle location was taken care of by parallel radius arms and a panhard rod. The front suspension was a double wishbone set-up with Shadow DN1 F1 uprights. Jim Yardley was a successful Monoposto racer and was the British Champion in 1969 with his home constructed Beagle MkI. Beagle MkIII was a later design Monoposto car which he converted to become a Clubman. The MkIV was Jim's first purpose built Clubman Car.
