Davrian Mk 5
Manufactured: 1967-83
Engine: Imp 1149cc Carter
Configuration: rear engine, rear-wheel drive
Driver: John Kirk
Class: Modified Sports Cars up to 1150cc
Date taken: April 1975 at South Stand, Ingliston
Information: Ed Newman
John was a Scottish driver who was almost unbeatable in his native country.

"He normally raced in the Scottish Championship and 77 was the last year he raced the Davrian. He won his category in every race and quite often won outright. His visit to Croft was to find a few more cars to compete against. He won his race leading home a Scottish 1,2 and 4 with only Jim Adamson breaking them up."

Not only did he win this race but he took away Jim Adamson's lap record for the up to 1150cc Mod Sports class with a time of 1min 13.6 secs, a speed of 85.60mph (137.8kph). This car is now being restored to its seventies specifications. (see present day spec car)

Jim was a local driver, living in the Co. Durham who competed regularly at Croft where he had started racing in 1970. His first car was a Ginetta G4R, which was sold to, and is still owned by, Eddie Faulkous. Originally the Davrian was fitted with a 998cc engine with which Jim broke the Modsport lap records at Mallory and Oulton. The following year (1976) the engine was upgraded to 1148cc, inline with other Imp engined Modsports cars. A major accident in 1977 resulted in the car and engine being badly damages, the engine never regaining it reliability and finally giving out completely. 1978 was used to sort out the re-built car and only 4 races were entered. However, due to 3 wins and 3 fastest laps, he won the up to 1150cc class in the Dick Protheroe Championship. The lower picture shows Jim in the pits at Croft with his Rock Engineering car.
