Cox GTM
Engine: Mini 1340cc
Configuration: Rear engine, rear-wheel drive
Driver: M. Swinnerton
Class: Modified Sports Cars 1151 to 1500cc
Date taken: August 1978 at Start, Croft
The GTM was considered to be 'perhaps the best ever' of the the mini specials by Car and Car Conversions magazine (April 74). This mid-engined car followed the lead of the Terrapin, a single seater hillclimb car, in placing the transverse Mini engine and gearbox behind the driver. Because the engine was above and slightly overhung the gearbox to the front, the design was mid, rather than rear engine. Despite of the lightweight fibreglass body and race proven engine, not many GTMs were raced. For a short time the GTM was produced in Hartlepool, a seaside town close to Croft - price for a basic kit £895 + VAT!
